Designer Tips
Try Layering
We see it in the natural landscape that surrounds us, and we create it in our gardens. Why not try the design technique of layering in your home? Through the use of color, texture, and pattern, you can add whimsy and character to a space missing that something special.
Some of the best designed rooms feature layering as a technique to create visual interest and depth. Layering can be applied throughout an entire room or home, or more targeted toward creating a focal point on a tabletop, bed, or wall.
By layering with color, texture, and pattern, you can easily create depth of field, inspire creativity, and give your guests a canvas for wandering eyes to admire. Let your guard down. Play with multiple fabrics; mix-n-match key pieces using wrought iron, rattan, and hardwood; incorporate natural elements; install patterned flooring; and explore the color wheel to draw on inspiring color relationships.
Your choices in home design are endless. Allow yourself to have fun with your personal space.
